MFW SS24 GUIDE: MAJOR DEBUTS, PRESENTATIONS AND EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

From September 19 to 25, the usual September appointment with fashion returns: the Milan Fashion week. So the Milanese capital is being enlivened by events, parades and parties for spring/summer 2024.

There are a total of 176 appointments, including 62 fashion shows – streamed on the official channels of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. The catwalk lights up on September 20 with Iceberg and goes out on the 25th with Laura Biagiotti.

What’s new? Also this year there are debut names on the catwalk, such as that of The Attico which will present the brand’s first runway show (by Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini), and the one for Sabato De Sarno, who will sign the first show for Gucci after taking over as creative director. Mark the date: Friday 22 at 3 p.m. New creative Simone Bellotti, appointed three months ago, will debut at the helm of Bally, while there is great excitement about the return of the brand headed by Francesca Murri: Fiorucci. New path also for Tom Ford with Peter Hawkings-who took over the company in April after the founder’s farewell-moving to the Italian event from the American one. Milan will also be the springboard for Swedish brand Avavav, just as Chiara Boni is skipping New York to participate in Milan.

Also on the catwalk were the historic brands, including Armani, Fendi, Dolce&Gabbana, Prada, Missoni, Bottega Veneta and the ‘smaller’ ones that have already made their way on the Italian scene, such as Marco Rambaldi, Act N°1, Cormio and Sunnei and Andreadamo. Among the big names, Versace, who was absent last year because he had paraded in Los Angeles, returns. In contrast, Walter Chiapponi is preparing to parade Tod’s for the last time. This year is also a time of anniversaries, such as Fratelli Rossetti’s 70th, Genny’s 10th, and Moschino’s 40th.

In terms of events, Camera Moda Fashion Trust, together with Cancer Culture, in mfw offers a fashion show to raise awareness of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Fashion Show, which brings together a number of brands on the catwalk, from Cormio and Act N°1. On the same day, the Milano Moda Graduate fashion show, dedicated to the work of students from leading Italian fashion schools, will be presented. Also on the 19th, the Fashion Hub returns, at Palazzo Giureconsulti, where the winner of the ‘Camera Buyer Award’ will be unveiled, while the ‘Maestri D’Eccellenza‘ award ceremony, sponsored by Lvmh, Fendi, Confartigianato and Cnm, will be held at Palazzo Reale.

Among the various initiatives, the launch of the MonclerXPharrel Williams collection is expected on Tuesday, while on the cultural level there will be numerous exhibitions including ‘Suzanne Jackson. Somethings in the World‘, a solo exhibition by Suzanne Jackson, curated by Bruna Roccasalva. Inaugurerà anche la mostra Max Vadukul ‘Through her eyes – Timeless Strength’ which will be open to the public until Nov. 19 at the Gallerie d’Italia.

On Sept. 21, with free admission at the Royal Palace, the photo exhibition Luigi & Iango: Unveiled opens, a duo of Italian photographers whose clients include fashion maisons and are much loved by celebrities around the world. The second floor of the Hermes boutique on Via Montenapoleone will feature ‘Kelly morphose,’ a retrospective reinterpreting the accessory from Sept. 13 to 23. On Sept. 23 from 7-10 p.m. Federico Cina opens his doors to the public to present ‘Stasis,’ the launch of a new drop from his permanent collection “Indelible.”

Also, the first episode of the podcast ‘Sailor Anatomy of the Body through Fashion‘ will be released. Reads Vogue, “the podcast aims to trace the new geographies of bodies and clothes by weaving the words of the great protagonists of Italian fashion, in dialogue with Maria Luisa Frisa and Chiara Tagliaferri.”
