VINTAGE COLUMN: MUM CAN I BORROW THIS? Why dressing vintage? By @SilviaAlbanese. THE POUCH BAG
THE POUCH BAG
This week we’re going to explore the story of the iconic Pouch Bag, straight from the 80s!
The first pouch bag model appeared on screen in 1980 on the set of American Gigoló and it was a Bottega Veneta design. It became a must have item straight away. The “It Bag” was then presented again during the Spring/Summer fashion week in 2017 when actress Lauren Hutton (who starred in American Gigoló) walked the catwalk with the iconic bag known as “THE LAUREN 1980” in her honour.
This braided leather clutch stole the heart of many celebrities. Dakota Johnson, for instance, matches it with denim and a t-shirt as well as with lace and silk dresses.

A new version of this iconic bag, signed by the new creative director of Bottega Veneta Daniel Lee, appeared on catwalks during the Autumn/Winter season in 2019. Soon it distinguished itself for being refined and sophisticated. It’s softer than the Lauren model and it’s big enough to be carried under the arm. It’s comfortable and versatile and it’s good with any kind of outfit. You’ll nail it for sure!

But the various editions of the pouch bag do not end here. Bottega Veneta designed the new “Chain Pouch Bag” for this Spring/Summer 2020 season! It’s the classic pouch bag with a metal chain as a shoulder strap. The rings are oversized and smooth. The massive chain contrasts with the soft folds of the bag and it makes it even more comfortable. The new Chain Pouch is available in a wide selection of colors!
