This is the closing episode of our chapter about fabrics, are you ready?
One of the most well-known fabrics, it is smooth, soft and shiny. Originally made of silk, it is now available in cotton or polyester.
A silk fabric of Chinese origins, it is made with the most irregular yarns of silk, which creates a double ‘opaque-shiny’ effect. It’s easy to recognize from the small knots that are present on its surface.
Taffeta is also made of silk, but this time it has more rigid, structured feel and it’s shiny and iridescent. It was among the most sought-after and popular fabrics in the past centuries, nowadays it is available in synthetic and artificial varieties.
Made of gauze or silk, it’s a light fabrics with a large weave and it can be soft or rigid. Mostly used for bride veils.
Classic thick fabric from Scotland, with an irregular look. Tweed is made of wool and it was the favourite fabric of Coco Chanel!
Made of lightly ribbed silk. It’s the fabric of ties and foulards but it can be found also in light blouses.
A wintery fabric, with a compact and “furry” surface. It’s very soft and it’s usually available in a smooth or ribbed version.
As the name suggests, it’s a very light and transparent fabric. This, too, is available both in natural and synthetic fiber.
