LET’S DISCOVER FABRICS! PART III

Hello Girls! Welcome back to our journey through the world of fabrics!

This week we’ll explore some of the most used fabrics in fashion. Of some of these a synthetic version has been created.

FINE LINEN
It’s a very valuable fabric, made of silken yarns and mostly used for underwear and soft shirts.

CADY
It’s slippery and delicate, quite hard to handle and to sew. It is usually made of silk or viscose.

CANNETÉ
Easy to single out thanks to its solid weave. It’s usually made of cotton or linen and it’s used for the lining of bags.

CHIFFON
An incredibly light silk fabrics, used for evening dresses and wedding dresses.

CRÊPE
Generally made of wool or silk, it has a “frizzy” look that makes it ideal for evening dresses (summer ones especially) or smart, office clothing.

DUCHESSE
A glossy, precious satin in heavy silk, rich and shiny. Especially preferred for structured dresses.

FAILLE
Similar taffetà but with a large grain and diagonally ribbed. Good for jackets and coats.

GAUZE
A light fabric, made of transparent cotton or linen, with a large, irregular weave. A must for shirts!

GEORGETTE
Frequently used for evening dresses and light shirts. It’s a light fabrics, a bit rougher to the touch.
